LAUREN GUSSIS

YOUR MENTOR

Lauren worked all eight seasons on the original Dexter for Showtime, graduating from staff writer to co-executive producer. She then developed, wrote and executive produced a pilot with Ryan Murphy, HBO’s Open (2014), starring Michelle Monaghan. Under a nine-year overall deal with CBS, she developed several pitches and sold nine pilots, including Netflix’s Insatiable (2018-19), starring Debby Ryan, which she show-ran for two seasons. Lauren’s broadcast credits include NBC’s E-Ring, ABC’s Once Upon a Time, and CBS’s Good Sam. When not writing, Lauren can be found with her 10-year-old drummer son, researching projects, or studying Celtic shamanic journeying and Western esoteric Qabalah.

Lauren Gussis’ session was a game-changer. With her incredible background on shows like Dexter and as the creator of Insatiable on Netflix, Lauren provided an amazing introduction to the world of TV writing. The table reads and insights into working in a writers’ room were invaluable. Lauren’s guidance was thoughtful and direct, showing me the do’s and don’ts of critique and collaboration in a way that felt honest and encouraging. In the short time we spent together, I was able to take my own show concept and break it down into something much more sellable in the TV market. Lauren’s insights helped me see the potential in my work and gave me clear steps to move forward. Her passion for storytelling and genuine investment in my success was great. I learned so much and I can’t recommend her enough to anyone serious about TV writing.” – C. Carroll
